Within the movie Open Range, a Western set in turn-of-the century USA, two cowboy types new to town meet with a lot of hostility from many of the inhabitants, who own ranches and oppose cattlemen who are “Free Grazers”, whose herds run loose and consume grass on public land. Moneyed interests in this town oppose Free Grazing. Some join them, some don’t.
In one case, an immigrant, first-generation Irish, said, “I didn’t come all this way from Ireland to see my land pissed on by Free Grazers”.
Before that, an older, working-class woman with an Irish accent is seen and heard to greet them in the town’s restaurant, where she is a waitress.
